Living in Cayman

Its 6:30am.  Its raining mildly, there is some rain and the infamous bush chickens are up & about … going about their regular business. I just went outside quickly and from what I can see its probably not bad at all ; although I am in an area with office buildings.  Most of the palms did not lose leaves, some debris on the road.  Its all office buildings in this area, so I may not be entirely accurate …

Ill go back out later for some picture and will post some on the way home also. I suspect some areas may be worse than others like for Dean. I have read some reports of flooding in some areas.  Also, we did get some high (it sounded high to me) wind in the early morning, so some homes may not have done well.

More to come later this morning

Quick late night update.  Its raining and the wind is howling outside.  Cant see much but I dont think its very bad. The peak of the storm is approaching (+-2am).  Will try to get some sleep now, but not sure if my wife’s yoga mat will do the job.  Dog is sound asleep … she can sleep anywhere, anytime.  Wish I could so that.

Here is a picture I took of the sunset.   There was a break in the clouds ; it was eerie and browish.  Strange storm!

It has stopped raining again.  Not much new to report to be honest.  Most people in the office want to go home, but the worst is certainly to come.  There are stories of high surge in Cayman Brac … so it may be on its way.  Brac is more east than us so it may be coming soon to Grand Cayman.  Most posts if the storm develops more.

Here is my “blogging/hurricane command center” 🙂  Note the healthy hurricane food composed of Vienna sausages, splenda diet coke and pretzels!

Here is Aipa taking it easy on the floor of my office.

Its raining lots now in George Town, Grand Cayman.

Here is a video from outside my office.  Gustav has started!

2pm, just started raining for a short while.  Dark clouds outside now, so it will probably start to rain again quite soon … and it did ; then stopped again.  A curfew is expected from 6pm till morning. The forecast now has the storm giving Grand Cayman only Tropical storm winds which is great news ; that would mean very little damage.

As you can see, the lines are moving north, more towards the sister Cayman Islands.  Not good for them though 🙁 Gustav is now officially back to Hurricane status as per the US National hurricane center.

This the view outside my office.

New Youtube video I just filmed outside … a few seconds before it started to rain!
