2pm, just started raining for a short while. Dark clouds outside now, so it will probably start to rain again quite soon … and it did ; then stopped again. A curfew is expected from 6pm till morning. The forecast now has the storm giving Grand Cayman only Tropical storm winds which is great news ; that would mean very little damage.
As you can see, the lines are moving north, more towards the sister Cayman Islands. Not good for them though 🙁 Gustav is now officially back to Hurricane status as per the US National hurricane center.
This the view outside my office.
New Youtube video I just filmed outside … a few seconds before it started to rain!

Thanks for your constant updates! Are you staying in your office over the hurricane period? Is this what people at Cayman usually do?
Best wishes for everyone on the Island.
Allo,
Tout est relatif, dans “only Tropical storm winds”… le “only” surtout 😉
Pour comparer, sais-tu quelle était la vitesse du vent que vous avez eu l’an passé avec Dean ?
Bon courage !
Yves
@Ann
Most people here shutter up their homes and stay here. The evacuees are mostly tourists. Most office buildings are also shelters, so no real reason to evacuate unless you have (for example) a very young baby or something like that. If it were a larger storm such as a Category 5 more people would evacuate though.
@Yves
Les vents a date sont pas super fort. Mais ca devrait se comparer a Dean. Dean était plus gros, mais a passé plus loin. ca fais juste commencer par contre … on verra!
Writing to you from Portland, Oregon where temps are in the low 80s and typical (calm) summer weather… I lived in the US Virgin Islands for a short time right after Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Your blog is fascinating, along with your video clips. I’m listening to “Radio Cayman” while keeping up with your blog. Keep up the good reporting and most of all, stay safe!
Thank you Mico for your updates and videos. My son lives on Cayman Island and needless to say I am worried about him. I live in Vancouver, Canada, and I always read your blog to find out what is happening sometimes even before I get inst. mess. from him! On a happier note I loved your video on feeding the iguanas!. Keep safe.
