{"id":522,"date":"2008-08-28T14:58:06","date_gmt":"2008-08-28T19:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=522"},"modified":"2008-08-28T15:08:33","modified_gmt":"2008-08-28T20:08:33","slug":"hurricane-gustav-update-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=522","title":{"rendered":"Hurricane Gustav &#8211; Update 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Its not looking good.\u00a0 The latest Government forecasts say Gustav will be a Category 2 by the time it reaches Grand Cayman in the afternoon\/evening Friday.\u00a0 Right now it is beating on Jamaica and then on to us. I will be going to my office tomorrow morning.\u00a0 I only have the satellite dish left to take down and that&#8217;s it.\u00a0 A friend will pick me up since I am leaving the car in the garage. Some of the forecasts have it going north after Jamaica &#8230; again, who knows but by now, no one is taking any chances.<\/p>\n<p>Right now its sunny and a slight wind is blowing east to west &#8230; not very surprising! Beautiful day. Just like for dean last year, I find it very eerie to know that its so nice but that a huge storm is just a few hundred miles way.\u00a0 A very strange feeling.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/at200807_gustpm.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-527\" title=\"at200807_gustpm\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/at200807_gustpm.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/at200807_gustpm.gif 640w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/at200807_gustpm-300x225.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Most homes now have their shutters up.\u00a0 Our house has the &#8220;traditional&#8221; plywood shutters.\u00a0 Does a great job, but not extremely good looking (although our are painted). I thought I would show some of the other types out there.<\/p>\n<p>These are lexan (sort of plexiglas) which allows the people to see our during a storm but protect great against debris flying around.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/img_58841.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-523\" title=\"img_58841\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/img_58841.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/img_58841.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/img_58841-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This house has the premium &#8220;pull down&#8221; model.\u00a0 Probably takes 10 seconds per shutter to close.\u00a0 From what I am told, they cost a small fortune, but are IMO the best out there.
