{"id":3493,"date":"2017-12-09T16:13:34","date_gmt":"2017-12-09T21:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=3493"},"modified":"2024-10-10T18:16:21","modified_gmt":"2024-10-10T23:16:21","slug":"cayman-islands-marathon-year-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=3493","title":{"rendered":"Cayman Islands Marathon \u2013 Year 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am having trouble believing that I have ran this race (the half-marathon) 7 times now.\u00a0 It seems like just yesterday when I was the newbie running the first time, all the way back in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Same course and always at 5am which I love since I get to run in the darkness (minus street lights) for the first 80 minutes or so. I even have my little routine.\u00a0 I get up at 3am (yes i&#8217;m nuts) and immediately jump into my car and drive to my office (of course my gear is ready and in a bag) and get there around 3:20.\u00a0 Then I have a coffee, surf the Internet and take it easy till around 4:40.\u00a0 Then I walk towards the start line and get there about 10 minutes before 5am.<\/p>\n<p>The race bib this year changed &#8211; for the better with a lovely picture of Stingray City.\u00a0 Note the &#8220;beer ticket&#8221;.\u00a0 For runners who need a drink after the race (on an early Sunday morning &#8230;), local brewery Caybrew provided everyone with a cold beer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3496\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3496\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3496\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_20171202_103023.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_20171202_103023.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_20171202_103023-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the start\/finish line, the same MC we have had every year for as long as I can remember did as always an awesome job.\u00a0 Its always a nice feeling to have your name called out when dashing towards the finish line.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3498\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3498\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3498\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_20171203_075657.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_20171203_075657.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_20171203_075657-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the finisher area ; all chatting and in good spirits (some surely on a runner&#8217;s high!) while having water, fruit and a Caybrew.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3499\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3499\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3499\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_20171203_075736.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_20171203_075736.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_20171203_075736-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On my way back to my office for a quick shower, I saw the Cayman Compass photo booth.\u00a0 Of course I stopped in for a funny picture \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3501\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3501\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3501\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/24293917_10159620035130024_1251318498990804896_n-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"481\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/24293917_10159620035130024_1251318498990804896_n-1.jpg 960w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/24293917_10159620035130024_1251318498990804896_n-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/24293917_10159620035130024_1251318498990804896_n-1-768x511.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Back from the office &amp; shower, I went to the Intertrust VIP booth &#8211; not sure how I got on their list, but I am not complaining. Coffee, awesome breakfast, mimosa&#8217;s &amp; the likes. We were lucky it was cool-ish and not humid. As for results: I\u00a0finished the half marathon in 1h42min \u2013 I am very pleased.\u00a0 That places me 32nd in a field of 613 half marathon runners.\u00a0 Not bad for an old guy \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3502\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3502\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3502\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Capture.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Capture.jpg 554w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Capture-300x171.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One last item of interest.\u00a0On November 29th,\u00a0 the population of Grand Cayman went from +-55,000 to 75,000. Around 20,000 people came ashore on 6 cruise ships.
