{"id":3388,"date":"2017-07-22T16:16:38","date_gmt":"2017-07-22T21:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=3388"},"modified":"2024-11-18T09:22:43","modified_gmt":"2024-11-18T14:22:43","slug":"silversides-in-the-cave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=3388","title":{"rendered":"Silversides in the cave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Each summer, Silversides appear and inhabit caves and other aquatic type shelters in the Caribbean. \u00a0 So late Friday afternoon, with some work colleague, we snuck out early from work to go diving \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Here were are, all smiles, swimming out to the reef. \u00a0The first 400-500ft are not very scenic, so no point in wasting our precious air, so we paddle out.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3395\" style=\"width: 490px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3395\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3395\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3395\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3395\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1910.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1910.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1910-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3395\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lots of caves to visit in the area of &#8220;Eden Rock&#8221;. \u00a0Ocean has been calm, so great visibility. \u00a0These caves are not for anyone claustrophobic though. \u00a0Panicking in an underwater tunnel is probably not a very good situation.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3396\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3396\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3396\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1919.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1919.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1919-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Around Eden Rock, there are LOT of Tarpon. \u00a0Although they are large (anywhere between 3-4ft long) they are 100% harmless and quite friendly. \u00a0After-all, they see divers and snorkelers 365 days a year at this location. \u00a0Always a nice sight though.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3398\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3398\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3398\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1974.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1974.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1974-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lots of colorful sights to see. No idea what these banana colored formations are. \u00a0Definitely pretty though.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3401\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3401\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3401\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR2029.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR2029.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR2029-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now for the real show : the Silversides! \u00a0The reason it&#8217;s a show, is that there are 1000&#8217;s of them and they hang around in a school that moves in perfect harmony to protect from predators. \u00a0It also makes for some spectacular pictures and videos. \u00a0The two pictures below show the &#8220;formations&#8221; of Silversides that moves in perfect sync &#8211; really neat.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3400\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3400\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3400\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR2002.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR2002.jpg 360w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR2002-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?attachment_id=3399\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3399\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3399\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1991.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1991.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/GOPR1991-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course video&#8217;s give you an even better idea of how neat this is, and how it is to be in an underwater cave. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pUbkf4NuDb0?ecver=1\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, on the swim back to shore, I got to see one of my favorite Cayman underwater sights &#8211; a school of Blue Tang. \u00a0These guys always bring a massive smile to my face. \u00a0They just cruise around, doing their thing. \u00a0Not to mention they are lovely looking fish.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Rzp0JrDOKXI?ecver=1\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>So there you have it! \u00a0Another awesome diving experience in Cayman.
