{"id":2995,"date":"2015-08-03T20:33:17","date_gmt":"2015-08-04T01:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=2995"},"modified":"2015-08-03T20:33:17","modified_gmt":"2015-08-04T01:33:17","slug":"wreck-of-the-cali","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=2995","title":{"rendered":"Wreck of the Cali"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently discovered a new and awesome snorkel site. \u00a0Its right in\u00a0George Town and to boot is accessible from a great place to have a meal and\/or drink on a hot day.<\/p>\n<p>The snorkel spot is the &#8220;Wreck of the Cali&#8221;. \u00a0The story of this wreck is that the boat was not designed for the large diesel engine. \u00a0With the vibration, it sprang a leak and the water got to the 30,000 bags of rice, which &#8220;bloated&#8221; and essentially sank the boat in the 1940&#8217;s. \u00a0 It now lays about 300ft from shore in very calm water which is +-30 feet deep. \u00a0Although there is generally little current and its an easy swim, i&#8217;d recommend that you don&#8217;t go there alone. \u00a0Its just a bit too far out if you get into any kind of trouble. \u00a0 From Rackhams restaurant is probably the best place to go see it. \u00a0After a nice cold Caybrew, you swim out and can get to the wreck within 5-7 minutes of swimming. \u00a0There is a\u00a0marker (a white buoy) so its quite easy to find.<\/p>\n<p>The great thing about this snorkel is right close to the restaurant, there is tons to see if you dont feel like doing the short swim to the wreck.<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of small colorful fish.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/P7190076.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2996\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/P7190076.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/P7190076.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/P7190076-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is a school of Blue Tangs &#8211; there must of been 100 or so of them. \u00a0Always one of my favorite sights.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/P7190131.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3002\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/P7190131.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/P7190131.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/P7190131-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two colorful Angels. Of course plenty of fish swimming around to see also.
