What an awesome little place \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0I took a large volume of pictures and struggled to keep it to a reasonable number for this blog. \u00a0Here goes.<\/p>\n<p>First: Owen Island. \u00a0Its a deserted island +-500 meters from shore on the southern coast of the island. \u00a0Its a fun and relatively easy kayak paddle out. \u00a0Note the first picture below : I felt like a kid and that i was going out to Gilligan&#8217;s island ; the resemblance of the island used in the show is quite strong.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230448.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2769\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230448.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230448.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230448-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once on the island &#8230; the view back to Little Cayman. \u00a0Not a single soul to be seen on the island.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230478.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2770\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230478.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230478.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230478-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Little Cayman, they have the native &#8220;Little Cayman Rock Iguanas&#8221; \u00a0They are very similar to the Grand Cayman Blue Iguanas, but are not blue. \u00a0My uneducated guess is that they are somewhat related due to the very close resemblance. \u00a0As you can see, they have right of way on the island and are cherished.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230517.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2771\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230517.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230517.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230517-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is one that was outside the home of a friend of mine. \u00a0I was told this iguana was very friendly. \u00a0So I approached very slowly and then petted him\/her! \u00a0As you can see on the picture, the iguana enjoyed it and even closed its eyes. \u00a0This was a great experience with such a beautiful animal.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230527.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2773\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230527.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230527.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230527-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is a very large specimen I spotted resting along a coral fence at a remote part of the island. \u00a0Must have been over 4ft long from tip to tip.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2777\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240656.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240656.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240656-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now to Point of Sand. \u00a0An awesome beach with great snorkeling just meters offshore. The day I was here there was not a soul to be seen (Note: end of summer is low tourist season in all of the Caribbean)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2776\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240621.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240621.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240621-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One thing I noted was how many Conch&#8217;s there were while snorkeling anywhere on Little Cayman. \u00a0Here is a lovely specimen. Note that the shell is not empty and it is inhabited by the Conch. \u00a0Its great to see since in Grand Cayman the population is much smaller due to more people hunting them during Conch season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240610.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2775\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240610.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240610.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240610-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here, at the bottom of the picture is Point of Sand. As you can see, its quite a deserted area.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240656.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2779\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240670.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240670.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240670-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Getting to Little Cayman is half the fun. \u00a0One must take Cayman Airways Express and one of their Twin Otter airplanes. Its a +-25 minute flight from Grand Cayman. \u00a0The airport is very interesting. \u00a0Here, note that the airplane needs to cross the road (yes an active road accessible to cars) and then enter the runway. \u00a0There are also no fences around the runway. \u00a0Not something you would see pretty much anywhere else. \u00a0 Little Cayman is definitely like things were many years ago in most places ; and that is a good thing!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240656.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2768\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230441.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230441.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230441-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is the airport terminal and fire department. \u00a0Very efficient use of space in my opinion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2772\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230518.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230518.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8230518-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Someone put this sign up on the side of the airport where we walk to the aircraft ; obviously someone with a very good sense of humor! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240662.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2778\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240662.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240662.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/P8240662-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On one of the evenings, we had a fabulous sunset ; no clouds blocking the view and I got to see my very first &#8220;Green flash&#8221;. What that is, is that at the very last moment, just before the sun disappears 100% &#8230; it turns green. \u00a0The phenomenon is something to do with the reflection on the ocean and atmosphere. \u00a0It was my first time seeing it so was quite pleased.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2766\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_5699.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5699\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_5699.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_5699-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So I hope you liked this post as much as I enjoyed going to Little Cayman. \u00a0 If ever you are in Grand Cayman long enough, I highly recommend taking a hop over to Little Cayman, even for just a week-end. \u00a0You can ride a bike almost everywhere and chances are you will not see a single car while cycling around. \u00a0There are only +-180 full time residents on the island which is 1 mile wide x 10 miles long.<\/p>\n<p>So I guess a visit to Cayman Brac needs to be scheduled now. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, its about time!!!
