{"id":2547,"date":"2013-12-09T20:43:19","date_gmt":"2013-12-10T01:43:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=2547"},"modified":"2013-12-09T20:51:22","modified_gmt":"2013-12-10T01:51:22","slug":"the-reef-resort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=2547","title":{"rendered":"The Reef Resort"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few posts ago I mentioned &#8220;The Reef Resort&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Well, Julie and I had the opportunity to spend the week-end here, a sort of &#8220;Staycation&#8221;, a term used very liberally in the Cayman Islands. \u00a0Very nice place. \u00a0In order to give you some context here is where the resort is located ; all the way at the north-eastern tip of the island. \u00a0(Note the green &#8220;A&#8221; on the map below) Its a good 45 minute drive from George Town. \u00a0A lovely 45 minute drive might I add!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/ee.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2548\" alt=\"ee\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/ee.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/ee.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/ee-300x179.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So here was the view from our room. \u00a0 I think we can all agree that is was pretty awesome. \u00a0We had perfect weather the whole week-end we stayed here. \u00a0The beach is protected by a reef which is about 1000ft out. (note the while line of crashing waves in the ocean &#8211; that is where the barrier reef is) \u00a0Inside the reef the water is mostly under 10ft deep and great for snorkeling. \u00a0The best snorkeling though was near the pier where I estimate there were 500 fish hanging out. \u00a0Under the pier at the Morritts (the next door hotel) there were about 2x the amount along with a family of large Tarpons. \u00a0Lots of great stuff to see. \u00a0I also saw a stingray right near the pier.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4893.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2550\" alt=\"IMG_4893\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4893.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4893.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4893-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4894.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2551\" alt=\"IMG_4894\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4894.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4894.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4894-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the pier directly in front of the complex (can also be seen through the palm trees above) a pelican landed for a brief visit. As I have posted in the past, there seem to be very few of these birds in Cayman for a reason I cannot explain.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4907.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2552\" alt=\"IMG_4907\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4907.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4907.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/IMG_4907-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These Sandpipers kept me amused while I was lounging in a beach chair 50ft or so from the ocean. \u00a0They would run up &amp; down the beach in groups of 10-20 looking for food and quarreling amongst each other. \u00a0Not to mention i found them to be quite cute.
