{"id":2411,"date":"2013-06-22T20:41:43","date_gmt":"2013-06-23T01:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=2411"},"modified":"2013-06-22T20:41:43","modified_gmt":"2013-06-23T01:41:43","slug":"back-to-spotts-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=2411","title":{"rendered":"Back to Spotts beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spotts beach is what I would call one of Grand Cayman&#8217;s hidden gems. \u00a0Its a rather small beach, but has some unique features to offer. \u00a0For those that are wondering, Spotts beach is on the southern coast of Grand Cayman, just before getting to Savannah.<\/p>\n<p>Here is Spotts beach. \u00a0Of course, this amazing color is not the unique feature \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0But, I have to admit it makes for great pictures. \u00a0 The dark patches are sea grass.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3946.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2412\" alt=\"IMG_3946\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3946.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3946.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3946-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today we had a strange long cloud formation over Cayman. This cloud spanned almost the entire island from what I could see from the beach. \u00a0 No rain though and plenty hot!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3947.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2413\" alt=\"IMG_3947\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3947.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3947.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3947-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Did I mention it was hot today? \u00a0It was really hot! \u00a0A trip to the beach for some snorkeling was a must.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG-20130622-00157.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2417\" alt=\"IMG-20130622-00157\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG-20130622-00157.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG-20130622-00157.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG-20130622-00157-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ok, so the unique feature at Spotts beach is unfortunately something I don&#8217;t have a picture of. \u00a0That sea grass I mention earlier : its a favorite of turtles! \u00a090% of the time we snorkel here, we see at least one turtle eating away. \u00a0If we just float and watch they don&#8217;t seem to mind and will carry on with their lunch. \u00a0Its a lovely spectacle. \u00a0 Also, its a great place for people who love to snorkel but who are not necessarily comfortable in the water or afraid of the deep (not our case though &#8230;). \u00a0The whole beach is protected by a reef +- 300 ft out. \u00a0Inside the reef water rarely is more than 8ft deep and many places you could stand up if needed.<\/p>\n<p>To the east of the beach along the coast, some pretty big wave action can be seen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3972.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2415\" alt=\"IMG_3972\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3972.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3972.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3972-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the other end of the beach, someone&#8217;s property and stairs go directly to the beach; how awesome is that?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3960.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2414\" alt=\"IMG_3960\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3960.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3960.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3960-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, we even had a plane come in fairly close for a look. \u00a0This United 737 was likely doing a &#8220;go around&#8221; after a missed landing or needed to go for a spin because of other traffic on our lone runway which is quite possible on a Saturday. Note how blue the sky was.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3973.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2416\" alt=\"IMG_3973\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3973.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3973.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_3973-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you are in Cayman and have a car to go east, I definitely suggest a stop at Spotts beach. \u00a0If you want to see the turtles, swim out to the left of the pier (the pier is right at the middle of the beach) and go about 100ft past the pier. \u00a0Once there, swim around without making too much noise and odds are you will see at least one turtle.
