{"id":2377,"date":"2013-04-01T06:58:47","date_gmt":"2013-04-01T11:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=2377"},"modified":"2013-04-01T06:58:47","modified_gmt":"2013-04-01T11:58:47","slug":"the-promise-of-cheaper-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=2377","title":{"rendered":"The promise of cheaper power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As in many western countries, the cost of power (electricity) always comes up as an issue for many people. \u00a0 Cayman is not exception where the cost is very expensive, since we have no waterfalls or large wind farms.<\/p>\n<p>That however should change soon with the coming &#8220;online&#8221; of our newly minted plant. \u00a0Those of you who have visited Cayman in say the last 12-18 months probably noticed a lot of activity on the southern edge of the island, around east end.<\/p>\n<p>Well, its almost done &#8230; Cayman will now have its own nuclear power plant. \u00a0Cost efficient electricity for everyone and for generations to come (assuming no nuclear disaster of course) \u00a0Sweet!!!<\/p>\n<p>Here it is ; I took this picture this Easter week-end. \u00a0 Lots of people checking it out along the south&#8217;s rugged coast. \u00a0Too bad we lost the &#8220;blow holes&#8221; though. \u00a0The dogs don&#8217;t seem to mind it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/nuke1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2378\" alt=\"nuke1\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/nuke1.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/nuke1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/nuke1-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is a better view from an aerial shot that was also published in one of our local papers. \u00a0As you can see, the coastal road we used to have has simply been moved a bit inshore ; no big deal. \u00a0 We will have tons of lovely shoreline.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/nike2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2379\" alt=\"nike2\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/nike2.jpg\" width=\"522\" height=\"347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/nike2.jpg 580w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/nike2-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 522px) 100vw, 522px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, due to the inflow (to the ocean) of all that hot water used to cool the reactors, there are numerous new types of fish swimming around. \u00a0The CI government is also considering starting up a &#8220;hot springs&#8221; project sort of like they have in Norway in order to leverage all of that hot &amp; steamy water. \u00a0Good idea for tourists.<\/p>\n<p>If all goes well, we will soon be\u00a0using\u00a0this state of the art facility &#8230; by next April fools day!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As in many western countries, the cost of power (electricity) always comes up as an issue for many people. \u00a0 Cayman is not exception where the cost is very expensive, since we have no waterfalls or large wind farms.
