{"id":1995,"date":"2012-03-19T19:13:32","date_gmt":"2012-03-20T00:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=1995"},"modified":"2012-03-22T17:43:58","modified_gmt":"2012-03-22T22:43:58","slug":"whale-shark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/?p=1995","title":{"rendered":"Whale shark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last saturday, a group of divers just off Seven Mile Beach had the experience of a lifetime. \u00a0Unfortunately I was not with them though, so this is all second hand information.<\/p>\n<p>Although they have the name &#8220;shark&#8221;, they are much more &#8220;whale&#8221; if you ask me. \u00a0 They eat\u00a0plankton\u00a0and are known to be\u00a0extremely\u00a0docile. \u00a0This particular specimen is estimated to be about 35ft long and stayed for a long while with the divers. \u00a0As you can see the divers in these pictures got very close and seem to even have been able to pet this gentle giant. \u00a0It must have been quite a sight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/whale-shark2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1998\" title=\"whale-shark2\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/whale-shark2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"432\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Whale-Shark1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1997\" title=\"Whale-Shark1\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Whale-Shark1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"540\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Whale-Shark.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1996\" title=\"Whale-Shark\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Whale-Shark.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"540\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I can only hope to see one someday ; they seem to be quite rare, but I think this is the second time I hear about a sighting off Seven Mile Beach. \u00a0 \u00a0From what I read, they can live an impressive 70 years!
