Those that will be traveling to the island at the end of July are in for an even bigger treat.<\/p>\n<p>On July 27th, the USS Kittiwake will be sunk off Seven Mile Beach.\u00a0 Here she is:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/USS_Kittiwake_ASR-13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1265\" title=\"USS_Kittiwake_(ASR-13)\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/USS_Kittiwake_ASR-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"457\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/USS_Kittiwake_ASR-13.jpg 754w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/USS_Kittiwake_ASR-13-300x241.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 457px) 100vw, 457px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/LOCALKittiwakesinkingSTORY.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1266\" title=\"LOCALKittiwakesinkingSTORY\" src=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/LOCALKittiwakesinkingSTORY.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"455\" height=\"284\" srcset=\"https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/LOCALKittiwakesinkingSTORY.jpg 480w, https:\/\/micho.org\/cayblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/LOCALKittiwakesinkingSTORY-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ok, some explanations!<\/p>\n<p>The USS Kittiwake is a retired 251ft long US navy ship (in service from 1964-1994) that was purchased by a Cayman Islands group.\u00a0 This was over a year ago.\u00a0 Since then, the boat has been cleaned, wiring removed, etc. It will be scuttled in about 60ft of water so to make an awesome scuba &amp; snorkel site as well as being an artificial reef for all kinds of marine life.<\/p>\n<p>If all goes to schedule, the boat will arrive in Cayman about 1-week before.\u00a0 On the 26th there will even be a public viewing and visit at the dock. The 27th the boat will be sunk with some sort of explosives I would guess. Should be a good show for those on Seven Mile Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Edit: Thanks to Lee, reader of my blog, &#8220;Sea water will be &#8220;piped&#8221; into the hull and it will eventually sink on  its own&#8221; according to an article in the local paper that I obviously missed!\u00a0 Thanks Lee. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Diving will start on the 29th! I will be off island so will miss all of this fun.\u00a0 But, will dive this site for sure not too long after \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>More recent news &#8230; that potential storm I mentioned in my previous post &#8230; is just that, a potential storm.\u00a0 Essentially lots of rain Thursday &amp; Friday but most likely not much else.\u00a0 Good news!
