It has stopped raining again. Not much new to report to be honest. Most people in the office want to go home, but the worst is certainly to come. There are stories of high surge in Cayman Brac … so it may be on its way. Brac is more east than us so it may be coming soon to Grand Cayman. Most posts if the storm develops more.
Here is my “blogging/hurricane command center” 🙂 Note the healthy hurricane food composed of Vienna sausages, splenda diet coke and pretzels!
Here is Aipa taking it easy on the floor of my office.
Thanx for the updates…informative; humorous; insightful!
Still laughing. Advice: don’t feed the dog any sausages.
Aipa looks as thrilled as us. With the easterly storm track (and laziness!), we’ve elected to leave our dish up – shall see if our optimism is misplaced…
Hope you are continuing to be safe. That means – hurricane eye is not actually crossing grand cayman?
Nope! Our Sister Islands to the East (and slightly north) are getting the eye, but a Cat 1 or even a Cat 2 blow are usually easily handled by the well-built houses here, especially if the storm moves through above 10 mph (currently 12). Ivan was a grinder, moving around 5 mph, and was Cat 3/4/5 depending on where you were… Gustav will be more dangerous to Cuba and the US…
so your officially “living in your office”?
so far your vids dont seem to bad.. just a bad storm.. (the glass is half full, right).
what does the rest of your new living space look like, couches, showers, mini bar?
@ all
Thanks for all the comments. We are doing well and we may get off easy on this one. Cant see much outside but its windy and seems to be very little rain.
Yes … living in the office. No couch … its an office 🙂 I have my wife’s yoga mat and some pillows. It will do the job for one night. Saturday night ill be back in my own bed. Nothing much to report now … if there is anything interesting ill make a new post.
Hi there…
Just found your site, it’s very nice to read about your life and life in general in Cayman.
I’ve been to the Caymans many times and my friends are working to retire there sometime soon.
Good luck and stay safe!
George 🙂
Any news from Cayman Brac or Little Cayman?
No news from the other Cayman Islands. Sorry. Ill post if I get news.
Just got this from someone at the office for the other islands:
“So far over 4 inches of rainfall and wind speeds of over 60 mph have been
recorded over Cayman Brac while Grand Cayman wind speeds have reached 40 mph.”
Careful with the pretzels. They may make you thirsty.
Hang in there.
had plans to fly into cayman tomorrow. hows the weather there with gustav. think flying is possible?
@Jeanette.
yes! the airport is reopening tonight, so flights tomorrow should be fine. Of course check with your airline to be sure.
Thanks mucho micho…one more thing what the general status of things ie power and water. Are things relatively operational. Gotta 16 yr old who should be returning to school but I’m trying to figure out how things are settling back down to normalcy there. Thanks
@Jeanette
Easy … Grand Cayman is functioning today just as it was yesterday and the day before. Power, water, etc are all running well. In fact, most areas has power and water the whole time. You will barely notice that we had a hurricane … seriously! We were really lucky. Happy travels.
